Make your own Grass head!

Who doesn’t remember the joy of growing your very own Grass Head friend?! Googly eyes and all, these little plant friends are great to teach your children how to care for our environment.

  • Stocking
  • Scissors
  • Black marker pen
  • Plastic cup
  • Elastic band
  • Craft glue
  • Sphagnum moss
  • Spray bottle
  • Packet of grass seeds

Materials to decorate

  • Paper
  • Cotton wool
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Googly eyes

  1. Start by cutting the feet out of a pair of stockings just above the ankle
  2. Sprinkle some grass seeds into the bottom of the stocking foot and fill with sphagnum moss. Shape into the size of a tennis ball and tie it off, leaving the rest of the stocking
  3. Pinch the front of the head to make a nose and tie an elastic band around it to hold it in place
  4. Now to decorate! Glue on some googly eyes, draw a mouth and use pipe cleaners to make a moustache or glasses
  5. Half fill your plastic cup with water and place your grass head on top, so the tail is dangling in the water. Now place your grass head friend on a window sill, to get lots of sunshine. Make sure to give him/her a squirt of water daily and watch the grass grow!
