The Learning Sanctuary

What to expect when your child goes to child care

From settling your child into care to the learning outcomes you can expect at each age, here’s everything you need to know about your child’s journey at The Learning Sanctuary.

0-2 years

Before your first day at The Learning Sanctuary, we welcome you to join us for some “stay and play” days to allow your child to form bonds with their educators. We encourage you to let our team know all about your child’s likes, dislikes and interests so we can tailor our care to their needs and incorporate their interests into our educational program.

In the weeks leading up to their first day, you can also read picture books about starting child care and talk positively about the centre and their educators to help them feel prepared and confident.

The night before your child starts care, put them to bed at their regular time and pack everything they’ll need for their first day. If your child is rested and you’re feeling organised, the transition will be much smoother.

When you arrive at the centre, sign your child in and greet their educators warmly. If your child sees that you have a good relationship with them, they’ll be more likely to trust them too. Spend five minutes playing with your child, and then give them a kiss and say goodbye.

It can be difficult to leave if your child is crying, but it’s important to establish a regular drop-off routine right away so they know what to expect. Rest assured that our educators will soothe your child and engage them in entertaining activities to help them settle in.

You’re welcome to call anytime during the day to check on your child’s wellbeing and progress. If you’re still breastfeeding, we encourage you to pop in whenever you like to feed them. You’ll also receive daily updates and photos detailing your child’s learning and development on our app.

Settling in to child care only takes a few days for some children, while for others it might take longer. Our team will work closely with your family to ensure the process is as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Once your child feels at home at The Learning Sanctuary, they’ll be ready to make the most out of their early education experience.

Our nursery rooms provide:

  • Nurturing environments where children feel safe to explore and discover
  • Tummy time, messy play and sensory activities
  • Language-rich environments through music, singing and rhymes

2-3 years

When your child is ready to transition from our nursery to our toddler room, we’ll organise a meet and greet with their new educators. We encourage you to share as much information as possible about your child’s needs and interests to ensure a smooth transition and help our team create a tailored learning experience.

If your child needs some time to adjust to their new room and educators, we can gradually transition them over the course of a few days or weeks. You can drop them off at their old room in the morning, and we’ll take them for a short play in their new room every day until they feel comfortable and ready to make the transition.

Our toddler rooms:

  • Offer play-based music and movement activities that enhance sensory-motor development
  • Give children opportunities to form relationships and develop their self-confidence
  • Provide language-rich environments through books and conversations
  • Allow children to explore literacy and numeracy through real-life experiences

You’ll be able to keep track of your child’s learning and enjoy happy snaps of their day thanks to our daily updates.

3-5 years

By the time your child is ready to transition to our kindergarten room, they might be so excited to go that they’ll run in to the big-kid room and never look back! But if your child requires a gradual transition, we’ll give them all the time they need to adjust.

As always, we believe that keeping open lines of communication between your family and our team is the key to ensuring your child receives an optimal child care and early education experience.

Our kindergarten rooms:

  • Offer a school-readiness program focused on literacy and numeracy through play-based learning
  • Use children’s interests as a vehicle for learning
  • Nurture social skills and emotional development
  • Encourage self-awareness and respect for others
  • Include a transition-to-school program

By the time your child walks out our doors for the last time, they’ll be confident, capable and ready for Big School.

Our team is always on hand to answer your questions and discuss your needs. We look forward to welcoming your family to one of our centres.
